Targets

Will deleting a segment delete its targets?

When you click the delete icon for a segment on the segments dashboard, only the segment itself will be deleted. All of the targets that are a part of that segment will remain in the platform.

What is the difference between dynamic and static segments?

Dynamic segments update in real-time based on your Target’s marketing interactions and additions to the platform. Static segments only update when the segment is initially built or manually updated.

It might make sense to have a Static Segment for one-time promotion for everyone that lives in a city & state if you have a limited time offer or an event. However, you may want a Dynamic Segment that updates based on your account Target Scoring, which will update in real time. For example you might want to have a Dynamic Segment with conditions for any Target that has interacted with a previous program.

What are the different file options when Importing Targets?

When you import a list of Targets to a Data Source from outside of the platform, you will be presented with 5 file options to choose from:

  1. CSV Asynchronous: Asynchronous allows you to import a standard CSV file that will verify and upload targets in the background, allowing you to work in the platform while the upload ius happening. This might be a useful upload option if you are uploading a large number of targets but need to continue working in the platform while the platform imports your targets. You will recieve a notification email when your import has been completed.
  2. CSV Import FTP: FTP is a good option if you are looking to upload a CSV file while keeping all of your targets data completely secure and private by using a protected FTP server.
  3. CSV: This is your standard CSV file upload. You will be able to see your upload progress on the import page while your targets are being imported.
  4. Text: Use the Text option if your data is organized in a text file.
  5. Database: Use the Database option if your data is organized in a SQL (Structured Query Language) database.
How does user suppression work?

User suppression is useful if you want to temporarily remove a target from a segment, without having to completely remove them from that segment. This can be useful if you want to stop a Target from receiving additional promotional emails sent out to a Segment because the target has already completed a purchase during the promotion, but you don’t want to completely remove them from the Segment because you might send out future promotions to that same Segment, and will want to include that suppressed target.

To suppress a target from a segment, follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to Data Warehouse > Suppression
  • Find the target you want to suppress by searching their email
  • Click the suppress/un-suppress icon under the action column for the desired target
  • To temporarily remove a target from a segment, drag the segment from the un-suppress side to the suppress box
  • If you want to add the target back to the segment, simply drag the segment from the suppress side into the un-suppress box
How does Target Scoring work?

Every Target in the Chainlink Marketing Platform has a score that is based on their marketing interactions. Points are awarded to a target based on emails sent, opens, link clicks, page visits, and form submissions. Points are subtracted from a target based on email bounces and unsubscribes. Custom conditions can also be added to award points for specific actions. The number of points awarded or subtracted for every action can be customized in your accounts’ Target Score Settings. You can customize the scoring system for every account type: Contact, Lead, Account, and Former Account

You can view your live Target Scoring on the Chainlink Marketing Dashboard in the Target Activity And Scoring section. You can also view a Target’s current score on their profile page.

To see all of the targets/contacts that are part of a company in your Chainlink Marketing Platform account, follow the instructions below:

  • Navigate to Data Warehouse > Targets.
  • On the Targets dashboard under the Company column, type in the company name you want to filter by and click enter.

How do I import targets?

To import targets into the Chainlink Marketing Platform, navigate to Data Warehouse > Targets. From here you can click the Import Targets button and you will be brought to the page where you can select the file to import.

In order to successfully import contacts from an external file into Chainlink Marketing Platform, there are a couple requirements. First, your file must be formatted correctly. See the image below for an example of how to format your CSV file:

  • The CSV column names will be used to create the list Tags, and if a Tag does not exist, the platform will create one
  • The limit on the file size you are allowed to upload is 20 MB
  • We recommend first doing a test import (in a test list) and see if that goes as planned, then do it for your actual list of targets
How do I Dynamically Map Form Responses?

When building a form in the Chainlink Marketing Platform, you have the option of mapping any of the fields on your form to dynamically update a targets’ profile upon submission. You can find these options under the Mapping tab of the form builder. See the image below for an example of mapping form fields to dynamically update a targets’ profile:

  • In this example you can see the form contains the Name, Text, and Email fields
  • In the next column, you can choose DO NOT MAP or select the field that you want to update on the targets profile. Here we are mapping the Email form field with the Email target profile field, but we are not mapping the Name and Text fields
  • The last column gives you the option of modifying the case of the fields value to be proper, upper, lower, or do not modify
  • In this example, any target who submits the form with their email, that email will be updated in the targets’ profile within the platform
How do I add targets to a data source?

There are two ways to add targets to a data source in the Chainlink Marketing Platform. Just follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to Data Warehouse > Data Sources
  • On the dashboard you will see a column labeled Tools with three icons for each data source
  • To import a list of targets to a data source, click the import icon on the far left and follow the import instructions
  • To manually add a single target to a data source, click the + icon on the right of the tools column and fill out the target’s information

You can also view all of the targets in a data source by clicking on the data source Name, Display Name, or the person icon under the options column. From there you can easily remove any targets from that data source.

How do I add recipients to my emails?

When you create a new email broadcast, the first page you will be brought to is titled Details. Here you can enter the program name, group, and segment. The way to add email recipients, or targets, is to add the segment or segments you want to send the program to. If a segment with the desired targets does not already exist, you can easily create a new segment by navigating to Data Warehouse > Segments and clicking Create New Segment at the top of the page. You can then add all of the targets you want to send your email broadcast to.

How can I un-archive a target?

Archived Targets are the Targets your account has chosen to remove from your overall account as they are no longer (or never will be in the future) potential Targets for use in your Marketing efforts.

If you’ve moved Targets here incidentally, please submit a ticket with a justified reason to un-archive, and a Platform Admin can change this back upon approval. However, this can only be done on a limited case-by-case basis and will be unavailable if abused.

Does The Chainlink Marketing Platform remove duplicate email addresses?

In the Chainlink Marketing Platform there are two ways to add new targets; manually add an individual target, or import a list of targets from outside of the platform. Below you will see how Chainlink prevents duplicate email addresses from being added to the platform in both instances.

  1. If you attempt to add a new individual target with a duplicate email to the platform, you will receive an error message saying that target’s email already exists in the platform. You will not be able have multiple targets under one email address. To get around this issue, you can create a new Target with the same name, but they must be registered under a different email address.
  2. If you import a .CSV file of targets, and some of those targets’ emails already exist in the platform, you will be able to customize your Target Import Settings. You will be given the option of only creating new targets (any duplicate targets will not be imported), creating and updating targets (new targets will be created while existing targets will be updated with new information), and only updating (no new targets will be created, only duplicate targets will be updated with new information). Take a look at our Target Import Knowledge Base for more information on the options you have during a Target Import.

These precautionary measures prevent duplicate emails addresses from being added to the platform, ensuring a target will never receive multiple identical email programs.
